Solidarity & Hope

Founded in 2010, TG Foundation is a UK registered Charitable Trust.  Due to the scale of the sexual violence occurring in Congo, our volunteer team and Trustees felt compelled to get involved to help the women and girls experiencing sexual violence in the Congo.  We are driven by our desire to support these victims of the ongoing conflict and we truly want to make a difference to the everyday lives of communities on the ground and provide a source of hope for communities affected by war.

A Key Moment

In 2008, during our first screening of: “The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo”, we were exposed to the work of the Nobel Prize winning Congolese Gynaecologist, Dr. Denis Mukwege and his hospital, Panzi.  Panzi Hospital in the city of Bukavu, specialises in the treatment of women who have been raped by armed rebels.  Little was known at that time about the war that was ravaging the Eastern Congo and this was the catalyst for the work that we decided to embark on.  The documentary serves to shine a spotlight on an issue that was unknown by the international community at the time.

Our History

In 2008, after researching the war in the Democratic Republic Congo, our Founder, Tatiana,  was shocked and troubled by the use of rape and sexual violence as a weapon of war.  She decided to raise awareness of the plight of the women and girls in the Eastern DRC, by hosting documentary screening of “The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo”.  This was followed by other screenings, as well as  fundraising events.  The events highlighted the terrible circumstances that women and girls face in war-torn areas of Congo.

In 2010, TG Foundation became a UK registered Charitable Trust.  Due to the scale of the sexual violence occurring in Congo, the wider team of volunteers felt compelled to get involved to help the women and girls experiencing sexual violence in the Congo.  We are driven by our desire to support these victims of the ongoing conflict and we truly want to make a difference to the everyday lives of communities on the ground and provide a source of hope for communities affected by war.

Our Partners

In 2020, despite the challenges to fundraising that the Covid-19 pandemic presented, TG Foundation decided to partner with an Orphanage that provides support to 167 children.  It was established in 2014 by a group of young residents, who saw the need for a charity that supported children affected by the war, after the occupation by M23 Rwandan rebels in Goma.  After the M23 rebels left Goma, the orphanage decided to intervene and help abandoned children, former child soldiers and orphaned children.  Losing a parent is a harrowing experience for children, but experiencing the realities of war and then facing the World as an orphan is equally as hard on a child.  Through its workshops, the Orphanage aims to sensitise the community about children’s rights and human rights.

They provide initiatives that work to prepare young people to build a peaceful future through their training and educational workshops, which include carpentry, sowing and photography.
