Grassroots partnerships & Impact

Working with local communities is at the heart of the work that we do.  From London to Congo, our teams are community centric.  We take the time to listen to the needs and requirements of local organisations and their leaders, to understand the best way to support women and children affected by conflict and sexual violence.  We believe in mentoring and developing leaders on the ground in Congo, in order to provide them with the tools to effectively help their communities.

  • We believe that Education for every child is the key to a better World. We want to ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education for every child and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all the communities that we support. We want to see remote learning rolled out in all warzones and developing countries and strongly believe in using technology to enhance and improve education at all levels. Help us make a lasting impact on a war orphan’s life and sponsor a child’s education today. As little as £7.50 a month, can help one child to go to school:

Over 4 million children aged 9-14 remain out of school

67% of children who enter first grade will complete sixth grade

Only 3.4% of ten-year-olds can read a simple text with comprehension

Girls’ enrollment drops off more sharply than boys’ after primary school

25% of primary schools globally lack electricity, drinking water and basic sanitation

50% of primary schools globally lack computers & internet access

  • Water is a basic human right for every human being and critical to health & hygiene for the war orphans that we support. We are proud to have installed the first tap of fresh running water at the orphanage, which provides crucial help with hygiene and sanitation. Help us to install a tap in the orphanage’s kitchen, a shower and a toilet. These facilities will guarantee that the children are eating clean food and have access to sanitation:

The Democratic Republic of Congo has over 50% of the African continent's water reserves

After the war, water became a sparse resource due to the collapse of the DRC's infrastructure during the fighting

Despite this tremendous potential, 33m people in rural areas still lack access to quality water

Today 1 in 3 people around the World lack safe drinking water

Nearly as many of them drink from a water source contaminated with faeces

3 billion people around the World do not have basic hand-washing facilities at home

  • We recognise that it is impossible for children to focus in school on an empty stomach. We encourage our grassroots projects to farm locally to create a self-sustaining food system. When this is not possible, we will support projects so that they can buy food for the children and make sure that they get the vital nutrition that they need.

  • We believe that technology is the future for education. We have sponsored laptops for the orphanage in order to empower the children and help them to develop IT skills which are critical to their learning and future career skills.

Grassroots and on the Ground

We only work by referrals.  We have a wide network of trusted humanitarian and human rights contacts on the ground in Eastern Congo.  Many of them work temporarily or permanently in conflict zones.

From time to time, our trusted contacts will introduce TG Foundation to grassroots organisations, who are doing life altering work for women and children on the ground.  After satisfactorily undergoing due diligence and KYC (know your client) on-boarding, we approve new grassroots partnerships and work with them to understand how we can effectively impact their organisation and community.

We are currently in partnership with an Orphanage that provides support to 167 children.

Future Programs

Sanitation and hygiene are critical drivers to creating a healthy and productive community for the women and children that we support.

We are committed to rolling out clean drinking water throughout the orphanage, which is in desperate need of a running tap in the kitchen for us to ensure that the children eat clean food and have access to drinking water (which will in turn help to prevent disease).

We also want to install the orphanage’s first shower and toilet. We believe that these simple, yet life changing facilities, will help to boast both the children’s health and confidence.

Make the projects a reality

Community Building

Working with local communities is at the heart of the work that we do. From London to Congo, our teams are community centric.

We take the time to listen to the needs and requirements of local organisations on the ground (and their leadership) to understand the best way to support women and children affected by conflict and sexual violence.

We believe in mentoring and developing leaders at our grassroots partner organisations, to provide them with the tools to effectively help their communities:

Militia violence threatens 3m displaced children in the Democratic Republic of Congo (source: UNICEF)

UN figures show that there are currently 5.2m displaced people in the DRC, more than in any country except Syria

Children have been recruited as militia fighters, subjected to sexual assault & suffered other grave violations of their rights. Such violations registered a 16%  increase in the first six months of 2020 (compared to the  previous year)

“Without sustained humanitarian intervention, thousands of children will die from malnutrition or disease,  and displaced populations will not receive the basic lifesaving services they depend on.” Source: Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF Representative for the DRC
